Center for the Study of Retired Athletes
Located at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Center studies the spectrum of physical and mental challenges faced by retired athletes. The Center collects epidemiological data on retired professional athletes and seeks to provide medical care for select retirees in a research setting with the goal of improving the quality of life for retired athletes and prepare active athletes for a healthier retirement.
Retired Boxers Foundation
Founded by former professional boxer Alex Ramos, the Retired Boxers Foundation aims to assist retired professional boxers, especially those suffering from dementia pugilistica or "punch-drunk" syndrome, alcohol and substance abuse problems, and homelessness, through its specific programs.
The Ralph Wenzel Trust
Ralph Wenzel played five seasons in the NFL as a lineman as both a Pittsburgh Steeler and San Diego Charger, and then went on to coach football at the high school and college level. Like many of his former NFL colleagues, Ralph suffers from early-onset dementia, creating significant health care costs and care issues. To assist Ralph and others in his situation, three of Ralph’s former players created the Ralph Wenzel Trust to assist in funding his care.

National Collegiate Athletic Association Injury Surveillance System
The NCAA Injury Surveillance System (ISS) seeks to provide current and reliable data on injury trends in intercollegiate athletics. Reviewed by the NCAA Sport Rules Committees and by the NCAA Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports, the goal is to reduce injury rates through suggested changes in rules, protective equipment or coaching techniques.
